Taft Bike Club

Bike Club Leadership

Our Story

At just three years old, our founder Zackeri Carrasco was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. Not long after, he was told by many educators that he would never be athletic. Rather than accept that label, Zackeri made a promise to himself: no one else would define his limits. So when he joined the Mayor’s Fitness Council program, his vision was clear—he would create a space where everyone could feel included and empowered to move, no matter their background or ability. That vision became the Bike Club.

Zackeri remembers what it felt like to be left out, to feel like he didn’t belong. He never wanted anyone else to feel that way. He started the club at his middle school with just two members. Today, it has grown into a thriving community of over 20 members at William H. Taft High School. His younger brother has since continued the legacy, leading the club at Dolph Briscoe Middle School.

The Bike Club has received recognition from Governor Greg Abbott, Mayor Ron Nirenberg, and Councilwoman Melissa Cabello Havrda, and has been featured on KENS 5 Eyewitness News. We’re proudly supported by local sponsors including the Mayor’s Fitness Council, TREK of San Antonio, & many more!

Our mission is growing stronger every day. We aim to develop young leaders, expand our community, raise awareness for congenital heart defects, and give a voice to those who often go unheard. This is more than a club—it’s a movement for inclusion, resilience, and belonging.
